Brilliant song, Gulzar back in form (after a varicose Veer!!), Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with his melancholic soliloquy, Vishal giving a spanish twist to the music (hark back to the Shankar Jaikishen days), and what you have is an souped up extremely addictive ballad.
This will remain popular, long after the movie dies within the urban dementia :-)

Amitabh, stumbled into your blog searching for the iktara male version translation. Well done! Parinda though is eagle not pigeon.. i'd rather have the spirit called an eagle :)
BTW my two cents on dil to baccha hai.. your translation is a tad complicated... can you simplify it a bit.. Gulzar's USP is his simplicity..

I thought I knew Hindi! The song is made of common sounding words but I could not tell what some of the lines meant. I set out to find out and I did . What a beautiful poetry. It's Gulzar right.
Not sure if you reply to questions in comments or not but anyway. The common sounding words like kari, baji means totally different than I thought.So where they all come from? Urdu?
Oi (that almost sounds like Oye!!), I am not an expert in language at all. My view is that the language Gulzar used for Ishqiya is Urdu peppered with bhopali (MP) hindi.....Remember the movie is set in Bhopal!!

Beautiful music....beautiful lyrics......mesmerizing rendition. Even to someone to whom Urdu or Hindi isn't the first language (or second or third language for that matter!), the translation did justice to the lyrics
